Why Contact Ministries of New Life
Faith Based Halfway House
Ministries of New Life is a Christian Recovery Program for Veterans (that we've been operating
successfully for just under 5 years) here in the Gulf Coast (Pensacola, Florida). We cater
primarily to veterans that have served in one of the following branches of the military:
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard. We prefer to have programs only by coastal
towns, due to the therapeutic effect it has on our program participants. We believe in
helping veterans and other men and women who need assistance in re-adjusting to society
after being released from incarceration periods from both Federal and State Prisons, and the
Escambia and Santa Rosa County Jails, or other unsuccessful addiction recovery programs.
We offer them a transitional living environment to aid them as their broken lives are restored.
Part of what we do in our recovery program is to restore old, historical homes, buildings and
marine vessels. Our past experiences have shown that if you give a man a job restoring
something of value, you begin to see a change in them as they begin to reflect a restoration
in themselves.
The ministry serves rehabilitative centers, the homeless, and other programs related to recovery
and addiction. If you or someone you know and love needs assistance, please contact us.

Homelessness is when a person lacks adequate shelter or otherwise resides in a place
considered below the minimal standard of what is a safe and typical dwelling. The main
causes of homelessness usually involve several reasons.
Economical Causes
People experiencing times of prolonged unemployment may decline. This may result in
inadequate hygiene, poor health care, scarce shelter, and limited access to nutritional meals.
Psychological Causes
These causes of homelessness often involve substance abuse resulting in an unwillingness
to work, or "doomed-to-failure" interpretations of their social and work environment
leading to a kind of self-imposed poverty. These causes are as vast as the experiences
themselves, and range from physiologic damage causing a mental illness to a demoralizing,
disempowering belief system from an otherwise normal mind.
Political Cause
Causes for homelessness may come in the form of: forced eviction, lack of heath care,
unemployment, forced termination, institutionalization, and mortgage foreclosures. Society
often views homelessness as inconvenient in one public forum and a humanitarian crisis
in another. Those involved in the debate may, at the same time, be collectively
participating in political activates that may directly or indirectly contribute to the
homeless problem.
Environmental Causes
Natural disasters - such as earthquakes or hurricanes destroying homes and displacing
large groups of people instantly. A percentage of those displaced groups may never recover
and assimilate back into mainstream society. Furthermore, environmental causes may also
include man made disasters involving war.
Medical Causes
These causes of homelessness involve an actual physical condition, inhibiting or disabling
someone from providing adequate shelter for themselves. Lack of health care, for any reason,
may cause a delayed diagnosis of severe health problems leading to loss of wages, poverty
and eventually homelessness.

Ministries of New Life, Inc. takes a step back and assesses what are its individual's needs,
and what are the resources available in the community available to bring about positive
change for each participant.
We focus on improving our program participants individual capacities, thereby increasing their
assets. Our programs focus on improving resident's skills, talents, and positive experiences
that bring positive change that eventually allows them to move forward on their own. We
focus on assisting residents find employment with local businesses, or assist them in starting
their own home-based enterprise. These programs allow residents a source of income, which
eventually leads them back to participation in civic and cultural associations and activities.
Outside Christian institutions are frequently a beacon of stability for our residents, so a
large program emphasis is placed on offering assistance to help each resident grow spiritually.
This is evidenced by Ministries of New Life's programs that link residents to the Christian
organization of their choice. We are an organization that is 100% committed to spiritual
growth and renewal, and to the promotion of self-sufficiency!

Homelessness isn't just a problem in the large cities. Suburban areas, rural farm areas and
even small cities are now facing the reality of having individuals and families who have lost
their place to live, and are now out on the streets. These are the people we are here to help!
* We address an individual's basic needs first, knowing those must be met before a person
is able to deal with the more difficult issues of life. We all need food, clothing, shelter and
hope!
* We believe that God is the sole source of real life change!
* We treat people with dignity and with all respect because these individuals are all made
in the image and likeness of God!
* One of our main objectives, besides finding housing, is to assist people in becoming as
independent as possible! While independence will look differently depending on the
person, for many it will involve permanent housing, employment, family reconciliation
and freedom from any addiction-at-hand!
* By helping an individual, we also help a family and ultimately our entire community
benefits just as much as the individual in need!
* We believe in 'Community', and the Pensacola 'Community' believes in us!
* We depend on the involvement and resources of a caring community for all of the
programs and services we provide.

The ministry's Center is the daytime "door to hope" for program participants. All have
access to daily showers, eat three square meals a day, and obtain suitable clothing for the
current weather condition. Our focus is on transitional housing, and training to assist those
to sustain permanent housing, as well as providing assistance to all qualified residents in
finding employment to help sustain independent living. Targeted programs ensure sustainability!
Spiritual guidance, prayer, and learning the love of God helps residents in their search for a
better life. We are faith based and proud of our record.
Our facility in Pensacola primarily serves men at this time. Staff members and community
volunteers are ready to help with spiritual matters, job searches, housing placements and
mental health screening for all who seek it. Almost on a daily basis, as a part of our program,
organizations send representatives to assist with veteran issues, health and other issues.
If assistance is not available on location, we will ensure there is necessary transportation to
the office or agency to help the resident with their specific issues-at-hand.
Our program, hopefully soon, would like to encompasses a transportation arrangement, which
would allow a vehicle to take needy program participants to medical, legal, employment and
other important scheduled events as needed. But for now, our program participants use the
bus, they walk or can bicycle to their appointments.

"Keep the words of our Lord
close to your heart...
...And you shall
never want for anything."
close to your heart...
...And you shall
never want for anything."
The 'Ministries of New Life' organization was initially founded in order to assist dysfunctional
men and women obtain the restoration of their individual dignity, as well as to restoring
their rightful place back within each of their individual communities; all the while with
long term support from a Christian faith based organization...'Ministries of New Life'!
We've begun to measure our initial tangible success with the completion and occupancy of
the Ministries of New Life's Men's Center, located in Pensacola, Florida. This was organized
from a start-up position, and currently accounts for the housing of our current residents,
and is served to date by staff members, including Chaplains In Training participants, and
a handful of dedicated volunteers. Financial responsibility for providing housing, clothing,
furnishings, house wares, meals, education, and training rest solely on the
'Ministries of New Life' organization while residents restore their lives.
We aim to place social justice at the heart of community politics in order to help our program
participants as they struggle to overcome issues and struggle to succeed with their individual
goals. Our policy development and our practices are rooted in the wisdom of those working to
tackle America's deepest social problems and the experience of those whose lives have been
affected by addiction, incarceration, mental health or even poverty.
Our working groups are faith based; however non-partisan. Staff, volunteers, and benefactors
are comprised of prominent academics, practitioners, local business men and women and
policy makers who have expertise in their relevant fields. We are currently in the process
of seeking national and international financial aid, especially with charities, foundations,
and social enterprises, who are champions at this kind of vocation. All help and assistance
is welcomed ... needed!
Our Mission is to assist our government in the reversal of social breakdown as it exists today
by actually transforming individuals and enabling them to get back on their feet, and back to
their own respective community [through their own work efforts] while possessing the tools
necessary to move their lives forward.

While faith plays an important role in our program operations, we strive not to proselytize or
coerce program participants. However, whatever their respective background, we are totally
dedicated to each of our program participants. So we are careful to avoid any activity that
could be interpreted as overt proselytizing.
At the same time, however, we elect to create programs that are rich in faith content. At any
time one can find a number of faith-related practices in place at 'Ministries of New Life',
prayer being the most prevalent of them. Other practices include reading and studying The
Bible, incorporating spiritual concepts into our program curricula, and the exposure of our
residents to Christian music. We ensure these practices are more an expression of the faith
of the staff and volunteers associated with our programs than an attempt to proselytize to our
program participants.
Our participants make their own choices when it comes to which church they go to (after
the first 90 days); however, staff is there to support each person. In order for our daily
programs to have an impact on them, they nevertheless need support in the implementation
of the skills learned so they positively affect participant behavior. In order to maintain
momentum, we feel considerable creativity is needed in each of our programs.
Therefore a need to draw on resources beyond those of our own ['Ministries of New Life']
allows us to better expand the capabilities of our participants by partnering and sharing our
faith-in-hand. This allows governments and philanthropic organizations the ability to assist
us in better addressing our resident's social and financial problems through various grants
and private awards. We are always seeking programmatic and financial support to attain
various internal benchmarks we have set for ourselves!

'Ministries of New Life' works will all levels of government, the private sector, and community
organizations by focusing major facility resources and efforts on securing affordable and
sustainable.
The focus of our current housing program encourages and supports an environment where
residents can be integrated into the neighborhood of choice. However, we will support and
accept offers of housing for residents that may be outside the conventional market, as well
as work in a collaborative manner with benefactors to ensure a range of suitable affordable
housing. Obviously, some place is better than no place!
Even though we strive for being a model non-profit whose referring program participants have
the freedom, security, and opportunity to make choices for securing a higher quality of life as
they transition out of our ministry; if required by a benefactor or grant giving organization, we
will make staff members or volunteers available to monitor the condition of certain properties
afforded our residents throughout local communities in order to ensure that our past program
participants are meeting minimum health and safety standards at their respective dwelling [both
rental and/or owned].
Our residents will transition into diverse neighborhoods, each one livable and enjoyable for its
residents and united for the common good of that specific community or neighborhood they've
chosen. That's our promise!
'Ministries of New Life' is always seeking individuals, non-profits, business owners,
governments and investors to donate dwellings, apartment units, and housing units for
residents to transition back into a community ... this includes units that may be temporary or
permanent! Housing is our biggest concern and costliest program to maintain at the ministry.
Additionally, units that need rehabilitation are also welcomed!

"For God so loved the world that He
gave His one and only Son, that

perish but have eternal life."
gave His one and only Son, that
whoever believes in Him shall not

According to the New York Times, the United States now has more than 2.2 million people
behind bars, and the number is expected to rise steadily. The question then becomes, where
do these individuals go when they have finished their incarceration period, and their families
and friends have forgotten them? How do they transition back into society?
We take pride in our second chance program at 'Ministries of New Life'. We welcome
individuals who are just exiting an incarceration period and have nowhere to go. We consider
ex-offenders as society's forgotten people, and are here to provide love and support to
anyone of them who asks, both male and female. We wish to help them break-the-chains
of struggle and offer assistance to these individuals.
Many times families ostracize men and women after having committed an offense against
society, and even though these men and women have already paid their debt to society and
are released onto the streets without support; 'Ministries of New Life' offers a home and place
of safe haven to those past offenders.
We minister to ex-offenders at the time they are being released from Federal and State Prisons,
and especially from the Escambia and Santa Rosa County Jails. This program is in cooperation
with both staff and community volunteers. Our volunteers work this welcoming back program
in a way that makes an individual feel he/she can still be a viable member of society, and still
be loved. This allows for an easier transition. Our various types of programs and information
packets are delivered to these new releases, so they can make an informed decision whether
to accept our transitional assistance or not. It is a collaborative effort with local Church
members, staff, and volunteers. This is a team effort.
Each week our team members meet, visit, and minister to the men and women being released
from jails and make recommendations as a result of our 'meet-and-greet' agenda. Individuals
can be a day, week, or even a year out of jail and still be eligible for our 'Second Chance
Program'.
This is truly a mission of mercy, and places a great financial burden on our ministry, but surely
it's a welcomed burden! So please help us to continue this mission!

When you're hungry, it's hard to think about other issues, and just not having food at times
becomes the issue that allows an individual to make a bad decision. We understand that a
good meal can open one's heart and mind to receive help. All residents are fed at no cost.

residents as a programming model, or simply providing work experience to our residents
in the Kitchen Center, our Kitchen Center can sometimes be the heart of our ministry.
Our spiritual ministry is to share Christ's love, and to provide Biblically based services that
meet the spiritual and practical needs of the unfortunate; with the target to help every human
being we serve move toward independence and spiritual fulfillment through Jesus Christ.
The 'Ministries of New Life' will help individuals regardless of what they believe in so far as
Christianity is concerned; however, we do feel a strong connection with Christ and the Church
and is exactly what our spiritual programming encourages.
Our policy manual describes our "spiritual model" as our main programming module. We have
chaplains on staff, visiting chaplains, and various clergymen from various denominations
that visit and participate in our ministry programming.
Pastors, chaplains, and clergymen are ready, willing, and able to listen to, pray with and pray
for, and counsel residents about their individual needs. Additionally, when requested these
same staff members and volunteers offer Biblical insight and spiritual counseling.
We welcome and host meetings and special events to inspire, support and to encourage our
program participants to better their existing relationship with God. A closer relationship
with God inspires greater self worth, and understanding of one's self. We also encourage
one-on-one counseling services, discussion groups, Bible studies, chapel and church services,
music, and addiction recovery counseling at our ministry as it relates to each resident's
spirituality.
'Ministries of New Life' teaches residents to honor God by obeying and trusting in Him; that
people matter most; that all interactions with others are opportunities to love as God as He
loves us; that the Gospel of Jesus transforms lives; that what we do from this point on, we do
it to the best of our capability, and that we do it with integrity knowing God is with us. In
summing up our Spiritual Program ... Finally, while striving to get whole, we strive for
excellence in all that we do and we do it in God's name!

Acceptable Items for Donation
We are always accepting items from your home or business that are in good re-saleable condition.
These donation items are used in various ways. They are not just taken and simply used by
residents. These items can be used as instructional tools for our residents, in several ways.
Some program participants are inept and out of touch with today's modern electronics or
appliances, so they are taught how to properly use and maintain such items.
Other residents may be going through our business module program, which would show them
how to use them in a business setting. Residents can work with volunteers and learn
business technique, financial systems, and good business practices while inventorying and
selling donated goods to the public. All profits go back into housing, food, and programming.
A third method of application for donated goods comes in the actual use by residents. This
can even be within their individual room [i.e. bedding, blankets, pillows, etc.] or simply
used by a resident as a household item for their transitional living setting [i.e. a washer,
dryer, or microwave to be used in a new rental apartment or home].
Additionally, we sometimes find ourselves in a position where a business or individual
wishes to take a significant tax deduction, and provides a donation that is capable of being
sold to a specialty buyer, or auctioned off at a local auction house. An example of such an
item might be a painting, a sculpture, vehicles, campers, boats, RV, motorcycle, etc.
We would be delighted to arrange and schedule for a pickup of any item of any size at no
cost to our benefactor/s. Donators are asked to call the 850-232-3504 phone number
to make such arrangements. Formal letters for tax purposes will be provided for each donation.

Everyone knows that most indigent and homeless people do not possess the proper or adequate
clothing in their present moment to use while seeking employment. Employers do not want to see
ravished looking clothes on the backs of a potential new employee. Besides needing the skills to
handle a job, a job candidate must look clean and dependable, and sometimes clothes make all
the difference.
We are currently accumulating business attire for both men and women, so if you have anything
business related that you or your family is no longer using, please consider donating it to our
'Dress-for-Success' program at 'Ministries of New Life'. All sizes are acceptable, so long as
the clothing is in good condition and one could wear such an item to a job interview or for the
day's work. Our residents want to work, and seek employment at various locations throughout
the County on a daily basis. You can help in their success at landing that job!
Our collection does not stop solely at business clothing. Besides suits, dresses, business shirts,
shoes, belts and ties; we are also seeking briefcases, computers, pens, stationery products,
and reading glasses. So if you have any of these items lying around the house, please consider
calling 850-232-3504 and request our crew to make a pick-up at your location. This service is
free of cost, and we're only too happy to add to our 'Dress-for-Success' inventory.

A Message from a program graduate:

The 'Ministries of Life' men's center facilitated a spiritual growth I had never known throughout
my entire life. Their programs and services, and unselfish staff enabled me to find myself by
providing me with the counseling, housing, and universal support I needed. I was basically
destitute. I had been arrested over 10 times for DUI and even served time in County correctional
facilities in several states. Besides losing my driver's license and my job, I had even lost my
self esteem!
Having no one in the family to take me in, I sought out the shelter and love provided by
'Ministries of New Life'. There I met Pastor Bowden, who was a tremendous inspiration for my
spiritual renewal. Sure I had my ups and downs in life, and never really could overcome my
alcoholism until I found God. Pastor Bowden helped me to look at my future optimistically,
which eventually allowed me to get both feet back on the ground and to gain my present sobriety.
I now had a commitment to bring Jesus into my life and to replace the drugs and alcohol that
almost killed me.

"The Ministry saved my life!"
I should have been dead several times, but now understood the reason I'm alive is that I have
purpose. That purpose is to provide my God given talents and knowledge in way that it brings a
multitude of benefits to other residents at the 'Ministries of New Life's facility. I have
given my whole life to Christ now, which means I've given it to the mission-at-hand here at
the ministry. I think everyone who has an addiction, who has lost hope in life, who has lost
their family and friends, and those who become destitute should hear the Word of Jesus and
the Gospel. Once they do, they will accept life and their future will be as optimistic and
bright as mine is now. I've become a different person, and have now changed my life for good.
Once again I am successful, but sober. I am focused and I am once again achieving great
things in life!
I hope all who read this message who donated in the past to the ministry's cause, and who's
case I utilized those funds and/or goods in turning my life around, know just how much thanks
and love I share with you today. I'm really thankful that I came here and submitted to the
ministry's program, because you saved my life! Even though I do not know all of
you by person, to you I will be forever grateful, and will always keep you in my prayers.
Thank you! J. Thomas

Over four months, a family of four will eat about 1,440 individual meals.
Here at Ministries of New Life, we'll serve our family more than
20,000 meals in that same time period!
While the USDA states that the average American meal costs is currently at $2.52+ per

other life-changing programs and services for just about $1.33 per meal per person. But we need
your support to continue with this capability!
We depend on the faithfulness and support of all our partners!

Our Statement of Faith
The bible is the inspired word of God, the final authority for Christian faith, preaching,
teaching and living. (II Peter 1:20, 21; Matthew 4:4; John 8:31, 32; II Timothy 3:16, 17)
There is only one, true and eternal God that exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy
Spirit. He is the creator of all heaven and earth, and upholds it even now with his power. He
has revealed Himself through His creation, His written word - the Bible and His Son Jesus
Christ. He himself is perfect in love and holiness.
(Isaiah 6:3; I Timothy 1:17, Genesis 1:1, Psalm 145:17, Romans 1:18-20; Hebrews 1:1-3)
Jesus Christ is God's only and eternal Son. Jesus is true man and true God. He was conceived of
the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He lived a perfect and sinless life, yet was crucified for all of
mankind's sins. He arose bodily from the dead, being seen by over 500 persons, and then
ascended into heaven to prepare a place for those who choose to give their lives to Him.
(Luke 1:35, John 1:1-4; John 1:14; Philippians 2:5-7; Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:20-23; Acts 2:22, 23;
I Corinthians 15:3; Acts 2:24, 31; Acts 2:32, I Corinthians 15:5-8; John 14:1-3)
The Holy Spirit convicts us to repent of our sin, and to confess Jesus Christ as our personal
Savior. The Holy Spirit assists and teaches believers to obey Jesus Christ. He lives in believers
and leads us into all truth. He helps each believer to demonstrate "fruit", and operate in
"gifts" so that they might share the good news of Jesus Christ with friends, relatives and
ultimately the world.
(John 3:3-6; Romans 10:9,10; I Corinthians 12:3; John 14:26; Romans 8:1-14; I Corinthians 12:4-12; Galatians
5:22,23; I Corinthians 12:4-11; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)
All men and women are created in God's image, separated by sin, forgiven and restored
through rebirth in Jesus Christ. God sent Jesus Christ from heaven to be mankind's Savior, and
through confession of our sin, repentance and personal trusting faith in Christ our sins are
forgiven, and we become children of God.
(Genesis 1:26,27, 3:13; Titus 3:4-6; I John 1:9; Romans 3:10-19, 23; II Corinthians 7:9,10; John 3:5-7;
II Corinthians 5:17; John 1:12,13; Ephesians 1:3-8, 2:8,9)
Those who confess Jesus, and believe, in Jesus as Lord and Savior will pour out practical love
and mercy in faithful service and giving. Serious Christ followers use their God given gifts and
talents for His glory. They understand they are called to full time ministry regardless of his/her
vocation. They function in faithful and practical service to Him, and to all those created in His
image, especially the poor, destitute, hungry, naked and needy. They give of their time,
resource, strength, and lives to do so.
(Matthew 25:26; Luke 6:38; II Corinthians 8:2, 9; Proverbs 14:21; Psalm 112:9, 113:7; Mark 9:41; Romans 12:7)

We Salute You!
Without the gifts and financial support, the volunteer time, and the prayers from our friends
like you, this ministry of love would not exist. So please accept our sincere thanks for all of
your support ... both small and large! Individuals that are temporarily lost and in need will
always be around to make use of your gracious gifts. More importantly we witness these
same individuals always forever grateful for your individual acts of love, and hear residents
proclaim this 'thanks' during daily prayer time at the ministry.
Many lives that were once broken, are mended as a direct result of your gift giving efforts, and
for these actions of love we are eternally grateful!
Many marriages that were once broken due to the hardships of losing a house are patched up
through programs supported by your gifts of love, and enable families to come back together
only this time in Christ ... and for these donations we are also eternally grateful!
Finally, many individuals without a lot of hope find Christ at the ministry, and the hope they
thought was lost returns ... all through the gracious giving by our friends and family of
volunteers ... and for this we are eternally grateful. For your reward will be one found in
Heaven when you look upon the glorious face of the Lord Christ! May God Bless You All!
